Here Are A Few Tips For Breaking In Your New Nissan

So you just bought a brand new Nissan. The car looks clean, the colors pop and the engine purrs. With such a big investment, now the question is, “how do I go about breaking in my new Nissan?”
While cars built today are better designed to not have to deal with as big of a “break-in period,” there are a lot of varying opinions on how to go about breaking in new cars. One of the biggest debates is the way you first start driving. While some think it is best to take it easy for the first few hundred miles or so, others say you should drive the new car hard to get the piston operating properly.
This then factors into whether or not your speed makes a difference during your first few drives. This makes some people believe that highway driving should be off-limits in the beginning, in fear that it might be too hard on the engine. However, doing more city driving is also believed to be best in order to vary the amount of RPMs used.
You should change your new car’s oil fairly soon after driving it, although the recommended time frame is what varies. Some say a car’s oil should be changed between the first 50-100 miles and a second time around 1,000 miles. However, others believe the oil could be changed as early as the driver likes.

What Does Nissan Recommend?
With so many different theories, it can be difficult to find the absolute, best solution for breaking in your new Nissan. With this in mind, the best option is to read through your owner’s manual. The manual was written specifically for your new car, so the manufacturer will always know the most when it comes to what’s best for each specific model.
When it comes to Nissan, we took a look at the owner’s manual for the 2017 Nissan Altima. While the debates cover common questions about breaking in new cars, the owner’s manual covers specifics for your Nissan. With the 2017 Nissan Altima, maintaining a constant speed and obeying speed limit signs is preferred and are the best ways to increase fuel efficiency.
Nissan also states in the manual that, “It is normal to add some oil between oil maintenance intervals or during the break-in period, depending on the severity of operating conditions.”
With all of Nissan’s tips to break in the Altima, they tell the user to obey this break-in schedule for the first 1,200 miles. While other Nissan models will likely have similar guidelines, be sure to check the owner’s manual for your specific vehicle.
