Summer is well underway, and that means you can stop buying questionable produce from your local grocery store and start checking out what’s available that’s been grown closer to home. Living in Glendale Heights, IL, we’re lucky to be on the outside of a huge metropolis, which means we benefit from a wide variety of options. Here are some of the local farmer’s markets you can visit in 2017.

Why go to the farmer’s market?

If there’s one thing the grocery store has, it’s the benefit of small crowds and knowing that you can find everything you want. Why venture out into the wild streets of farmer’s markets? The quick answer is that you know everything you bring home is fresh and locally-grown. Plus, it’s just fun. In addition to food, you’ll find interesting vendors, live music and fresh-cut flowers.


Wheaton French Market 

When: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturdays from April 15 to Nov. 11

Where: Main Street and Liberty Drive

What: Jewelry, crafts, flowers, food and produce

Elk Grove Farmer’s Market

When: 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays from June 3 to Oct. 14.

Where: Clock Tower at 901 Wellington Ave.

What: Fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, breads, drinks, coffee, dog treats, lawn décor

Naperville Farmer’s Market

When: Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., June 3 through Oct. 28.

Where: 200 E. 5th Ave.

What: Produce, meat, hot coffee, honey, soap, flowers, crafts, jam, cheese

Olde Schaumburg Centre Farmer’s Market

When: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays through Oct.

Where: 190 s. Roselle Road

What: Locally grown fruits/veggies, meats, flowers, plants, cheese, pastries, olive, spices, lemonade, etc.


These are just some of the local farmer’s markets in the area. You’ll find other area cities, like Elmhurst, Downers Grove and Palos Heights, IL also offer their own weekly events, plus a big shout out to The Farm, where you can skip the crowds and get straight to the veggies Mon-Saturday.
