Do you know how to install a new car battery?

What’s the easiest way to figure out your car battery is dead? Well, you can hook it up to a multimeter, or we can do it for you, but there are a variety of other ways to get a good hint that your battery doesn’t have much life left in it. If, for example, your lights are dim it’s a bad sign. Especially if they brighten when you rev the engine. Other telltale signs are difficulty starting the engine, a check engine light, low fluid level and battery leakage. Once you know your battery needs to be replaced, the next step is learning how to replace your Nissan car battery.

Assuming you’ve found the correct battery for your model and you’re prepared to install it yourself, here are some tips on how to do so.
- We hope this is obvious, but turn off the engine
- Pop the hood
- Us a ratcheting socket wrench or combination wrench to loosen the clamp that holds down the battery
- Remove the negative cable clamp from the negative terminal (black cover with a “-“ sign)
- Loosen the nut to remove the cable from the battery
- Repeat for the positive battery terminal
- Grip the battery on each side and carefully lift it up and out
- Clean the battery tray to remove any corrosive materials
- Inspect and clean battery terminal clamps
- Carefully place new battery in, ensuring the positive side matches with the positive clamp
- Tight the holding clamp over the batter
- Remove plastic caps from battery posts
- Use anti corrosion washers and a small amount of grease
- Reconnect the positive terminal first
- Reconnect the negative terminal
