Seeing any type of smoke coming from your vehicle can set off a bunch of alarm bells in our heads. We will be covering what certain colors could mean and what you should do if you see them.
Wispy White
Of all of the colors we mention in this blog, if it is a cool morning and you are seeing some wispy white smoke coming out from your exhaust, this is perfectly okay. This is from the condensation collected inside the exhaust pipes which become vapor as the vehicle warms up.
Black
If you notice some black smoke billowing out from your exhaust, this could indicate a rich fuel condition in your engine. What this means is there is too much fuel and not enough air inside the engine, which can lead to increased fuel consumption. A malfunctioning or leaking fuel injector, a blockage in the air intake or a bad fuel pressure regulator could cause this.
Blue
A sign of your engine burning too much oil is blue or grey-colored smoke coming out. It could be caused by a blocked PCV valve which can suck oil into the engine. The fix can be as easy as replacing the valve.
White
If the weather is warm and you are noticing white smoke, this means your engine could be consuming coolant. This can be a result of a leaking head gasket. The white smoke is an easy indicator of something wrong but it shouldn’t put off because it could lead to worse problems down the road.
