Nissan has released an interview with one of its lead designers, Ken Lee, who focused heavily on the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. We have rallied up some of the most interesting facts from the interview.
Where was the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder design inspired from?
As one of Ken Lee’s childhood favorites, the original first-generation Pathfinder was a big inspiration for the 2022 model year. In the 1980s, the design was fresh and exciting in the market. Integrating some of the fender blisters on the side and the muscularity of the toughness underneath gives easily identifiable touches to create excitement and add a fresh take.
Why is proportion so important to the new model?
When the new design of the Pathfinder was being discussed, the first thing the designers wanted to do is enhance the proportions of the SUV. This helped make it bold, strong yet have a simplicity to the design.
The interior has a different feeling compared to the ruggedness of the exterior, how did integration of the two designs work?
The interior continues the theme of strength and capability but offers more comforts than most Nissan customers expect. The instrument panel has unique shaped air vents that are iconic and memorable while the center console is wide and purposeful. There is still a sense of quality and all the surfaces are wrapped in premium materials.
