Benefits of Nissan Rear Door Alert Technology

When you first hear the name of the Nissan’s newest safety technology, Rear Door Alert, you might think that it simply exists to remind you if a door isn’t closed all the way. This isn’t the case. The new technology is meant to benefit parents, who can often have so much on their plates, it’s easy to be a bit forgetful. One thing you never want to forget in the backseat? A sleeping child. This is where the new technology shines.

How does Nissan Rear Door Alert work?

You may not be aware of this, but there’s a push to make all automakers provide some sort of rear seat alert so that a child in the back isn’t forgotten. Every year, children die of heat stroke when they are left behind. There are plenty of great solutions, such as leaving a shoe, wallet or purse with your kid, or parking them where you can see them in the rearview mirror, but there will still be cases where this doesn’t work or parents aren’t taking these precautions.

Nissan Rear Door Alert is the first of its kind, essentially providing an automatic response if you opened your rear door before setting off. If you don’t open the rear door again once you park and turn off the vehicle, you’ll see a visual alert in the gauge cluster, followed by a series of chirp-like honks.

We think of the Rear Door Alert as a safety system because it seems most beneficial for parents, but it also can serve as a reminder for any time you leave things in the back seat. The system can be turned off, however, for those who frequently use the rear seat, but don’t wish to have an alert.
