Summer is finally upon us, which means we can enjoy grilling out, going for a swim, camping and checking out local fireworks displays. Every festival and event tends to end with a bang around this time of the year, but no bigger display can be found than what we see on the 4th of July. But where can you find the best displays in northern Illinois and around the Chicago area for 2017? We’re here to help, whether you want to visit the biggest, or find something a little more down to earth.

Lisle’s Eyes to the Skies Festival
This is one of our favorite events, as it is a weekend festival that puts hot air balloons on display. You can take a ride yourself, or simply enjoy the wide range of unique designs. There will also be a carnival, live music on two stages, crafts and evening fireworks. The biggest display will be the evening of July 2, 2017, so don’t miss it.
Downers Grove Independence Day
Keeping things more traditional is the Independence Day celebration over in Downers Grove. It all takes place on Tuesday, July 4 and begins with a parade at 12:45 p.m. The fireworks display will be held at 9:30 p.m. at 75th Street and Lemont Road.
Perk up before the fireworks with these great coffee houses
For the biggest display, you’ll want to head over to Navy Pier at 9:30 p.m. Of course, there are biweekly fireworks shows throughout the summer, but there’s plenty more to do if you head to Chicago. Highlights include Independence Day cruises and live bands.
This is actually a two day celebration, starting with carnival rides, a business expo, food vendors, a DG and fireworks on July 3, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Graf Park. The parade takes place on the 4th, marching through downtown Wheaton at 10 a.m.
