When you look at the fuel economy figures for either the full-size 2017 Nissan Armada or the 2017 Nissan Titan, efficiency is unlikely to be the first word that comes to mind. Your Armada only gets 14 city and 19 highway mpg, while the Titan doesn’t fare much better with a 15 city and 21 highway mpg rating. Still, once you realize that these larger models have V8 engines, you might rethink whether these numbers are as bad as they seem. Nissan actually offers an innovative design that allows its V8 to more efficient than the competition, just so long as that competition is other V8 engines.
2017 Nissan Titan doesn’t need a throttle
When we say that the 2017 Nissan Titan doesn’t need a throttle, we don’t mean that it doesn’t have one. Rather, the Variable Valve Event and Lift found in the engine essentially works by using an electric motor to control the camshaft, so the throttle isn’t needed to regulate airflow. It’s there in case something fails, because you’re always better safe than sorry.

If all this doesn’t sound particularly impressive, and why would it if you aren’t interested in the intricacies of engineering, consider the fuel economy of the 2004 Nissan Titan: 13 city and 17 highway mpg. For a V8 engine, that extra five mpg is a giant leap.
