Big changes are in the forecast for the 2017 Nissan Armada. The largest member of the family, the full-size Armada will be sharing some design traits in common with the overseas Nissan Patrol. (The Patrol has never seen U.S. soil except for an earlier version back in the 60’s that was available under a different name.)
With the all-new Armada’s release date rolling around soon and plenty of rumors of how it will be an Americanized Nissan Patrol, we’d like to address what we know about how similar the 2017 Nissan Armada is to the Patrol.
What is the Nissan Patrol?
First things first. What is the Nissan Patrol? Perhaps up until this point in time you’ve never even heard of it.
The Patrol is a luxury, off-road 4×4 SUV that has beautiful on and off-road manners and for decades now has been known for its extreme versatility and capability. It truly is the best of both worlds for those who are looking for a vehicle with truck-like capability and 4×4 performance but still need a comfortable family vehicle that sits on the classier end of the spectrum.
New for the 2017 Nissan Armada
The 2017 Nissan Armada remains the largest member of the Nissan family and will be able to seat 7 or 8 passengers. Behind its third row of seating is 16.5 cu-ft of cargo space, but the second and third rows of seats can be split and folded for additional cargo space.
And although the Armada is going to share a few things in common with the Patrol and be built alongside it in Japan, it won’t be sharing the core similarities that make the Patrol “the Patrol.” While the two will share the body-on-frame chassis and powertrain, the Nissan Patrol will be keeping its off-road equipment to itself like the: locking front and rear differentials or trick sway bar disconnects.

One of the primary reasons for this is American drivers like a smooth and comfortable family hauler with excellent roadside manners. They’d rather have something more efficient and better-behaved on city streets and highways than sacrificing this for a extreme, rugged capability.
But when it comes down to it, honestly, how much extreme off-roading do you plan on doing because the Armada is still fully capable. It has nine-inches of ground clearance and four-wheel drive which helps it to tackle most anything that you’re up against, weather or terrain-wise.

Nissan hasn’t released official pricing as of yet, but what we do know is that the MSRP is estimated to be around $45,395. For a luxurious, family-hauler with off road capability, the Armada will come in thousands of dollars short of what most are priced at. As more information becomes available, we will be sure to let you know!
