Just because National Tire Safety Week is coming to a close doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still take proper care of your car’s tires in order to remain safe behind the wheel in all conditions. It’s easy to forget how important a car’s tires are; they don’t require too much care except for the occasional rotation, wheel alignment, or new set every couple of years.
When you really think about it, tires are the one part of your vehicle that are in contact with the road every single day no matter where you go. Naturally the tread is going to wear down and the air pressure will decrease, and that’s precisely why just checking to make sure they are properly inflated can help keep you protected behind the wheel while also improving your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
According to the NHTSA, “A tire 25% below its recommended pressure is almost three times more likely to be involved in a tire-related crash.”
Easy Tire Inspection Tips
In order to help keep you and your passengers safe, Nissan has put together the following tire maintenance tips:
- Inspect your tires: It’s as simple as that. Walk around your vehicle and take a look at each individual tire to see if there is any damage, uneven wear, or deflation.
- Proper level: Your owner’s manual will tell you the proper inflation or the manufacturer’s recommended amount which can be found on the driver-side door jam of your vehicle.
- Temperature changes: Drastic increase and decrease in the weather can greatly affect your tire pressure.
- Weight limits: Be careful not to overload your vehicle. There is a maximum amount of weight that your vehicle can handle and overloading it can lead to a blowout which is highly dangerous when traveling at faster speeds.
- Watch the road: We all know that the roadways aren’t perfect so always keep an eye out for any debris or large potholes. Driving over things like these can lead to a flat tire.
How does Nissan Easy-FIll Tire Alert Work?
Rather than trying to guess how much air to put in or take out of each tire, Nissan has come up with a quick and easy way to check your tire pressure. The tire pressure monitoring system is able to alert the driver when pressure is getting low, but even better yet, while filling up, the system will beep the horn to let you know that you have reached the correct amount. Check out the video below to see the easy-fill tire alert system in action on the Nissan Quest.
