Carlos Ghosn steps down as Chief Executive Officer of Nissan
By Product Expert | Posted in News on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 at 5:58 pmWho is the new CEO of Nissan in 2017?
In case you weren’t aware, Carlos Ghosn has been the Nissan CEO for the past 16 years. That’s a long time, especially when you consider he has also been heading Renault, and the company recently acquired Mitsubishi Motors. That’s a lot for any one man to take on, which is why Nissan is getting a new CEO for 2017 while Ghosn puts his focus on Renault. So who is the new Nissan CEO?
Hiroto Saikawa takes over as Nissan’s Chief Executive Officer
We’re not quite ready to say there’s a new sheriff in town, as Hiroto Saikawa was already an important figure at Nissan. Saikawa is currently a co-CEO for Nissan and a representative director, so it won’t be a huge jump when he takes on the role starting April 1, 2017. Saikawa has been with Nissan Since 1977, so we know he is familiar with the ropes, plus he’s held management positions with the company since 1999.

Ghosn, on the other hand, isn’t entirely stepping down. Rather, he will continue as a Chariman of the Board for Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors and Renault Group and Chief Executive Officer of Renault. Nobody will call this fearless leader a slacker in the least! He’ll also still have an influence over the goings-on at Nissan, so there’s no reason to fear any major changes with our beloved brand.
So what does all of this mean for us? We expect Nissan to continue strong with solid partnerships and new models, but we’re not so sure the What Drive Carlos Ghosn Chapters, which Nissan has been releasing about the CEO, will continue. We know you’ve all been following up on those and will miss them, right? Just look at the baby pictures and that mustache:
